Afghan Relief Response
For the past week or more, Afghan refugees – many of whom assisted our nation’s military in the war against terrorism -arrive as “walk-ins”, they often have no money, nowhere to stay, and nothing to eat. Unfortunately, there is typically a five-to-seven-day gap between the families’ arrivals and the services they are eligible to receive through the United States resettlement program. This is where Good Shepherd comes in. If you would like to donate to Afghan Relief, please begin by providing your name, address, and phone number so that we can more readily collect and credit your donations.
So as not to conflict with our mission to Jesus Focus, Afghan Relief is NOT asking for donations of food items. Instead, The Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) and its locale affiliate, Bethany Christian Services, is asking that we donate:
Diapers (any size)
Soap
Toiletries (full size)
Hygiene items (Body Wash; Toothpaste; Toothbrushes; Feminine Products)
School Supplies: Backpacks, pencils, pens, crayons, coloring books (non-religious, and “no pigs”)
Cleaning Supplies
Formula
If you wish to donate one or more of these items, please put it on your front porch on pick-up morning. Alternatively, you can purchase online and have it delivered to Stephen G. Schroeder, 928 Cybus Way, Southampton, Pa. 18966.
Volunteers from Good Shepherd will “gather” your donations on Saturday, September 25 between 9 AM and 12 PM.
