POSITION SUMMARY:
Good Shepherd is seeking an energetic, organized, motivational, and collaborative Music Director to continue a well-developed music program comprised of people ranging in ages and talents. The Music Director, with collaboration with the Pastors, is responsible for advancing our ministries and mission by leading the music programs and coordinating with other music staff and volunteers. We look forward to continuing worship that is rooted in Lutheran liturgical tradition, incorporates Contemporary Christian and other genres of music, and engages and inspires all who participate to draw closer to God.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Work in collaboration with the Pastors and Music and Worship Committee to plan worship for Sunday services, special seasons, and festival occasions by choosing music appropriate to the church season and weekly lectionary and incorporating diverse styles, musicians, and instruments.
Responsible for the scheduling of all choral and instrumental music for Adult, Youth, Junior, Hand Bell, and Cherub groups currently in existence and any other groups that may be formed.
Responsible for oversight and scheduling of all choral and instrumental music for Sunday worship, special services and any community events.
Work in collaboration with the organist/pianist to rehearse Good Shepherd’s
musical groups, soloists, musicians, and handbell choirs. Occasionally provide accompaniment for musical offerings.
Provide leadership in developing and facilitate growth in the musical groups, musicians and soloists from the congregation as well as the possibility of musical outreach to the community.
Serve on the Music and Worship committee ex officio and other appropriate ministry teams.
Participate in weekly staff meeting.
Present for Sunday Worship services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Lives a life of faith and demonstrates the spirit of Jesus Christ through an energetic, caring, and positive disposition.
Bachelor’s Degree in Music or equivalent musical and choral directing experience.
Demonstrated excellence in collaboration with clergy, staff members, congregational leaders, and volunteers.
Demonstrated experience and competency in directing groups of all ages.
Engaging interpersonal skills conducive to welcoming and motivating volunteers.
Demonstrated knowledge of the use of different music genres in worship which coincides with the liturgical Sundays and seasons.
Experience and competency in directing advanced handbell choir (5 octave, Level 2+), instrumental ensembles, and developing new ensembles.
Demonstrated strength in organizational skills
Demonstrated skills working with technology such as Microsoft Office 365, MS office and SharePoint.
Keyboard performance (piano and organ) and ability to provide accompaniment is a plus.
Ability to organize and produce virtual musical projects is a plus
Some knowledge of copyright law and its application, as it pertains to both in-person and on-line worship settings is preferred.
Criminal background and child abuse clearances required.
