CHOIR - your place for
worship, growth and fellowship!
Welcome to Good Shepherd's Music Ministry and my blog!
Let me introduce myself. I feel that the most important part of my calling at Good Shepherd is to provide opportunities for our congregation's members to serve as musicians in ways that are worshipful, inspirational and fulfilling. My goal is to make our musical ensembles places where one feels cared for and where one can care for others. We enjoy fellowship by sharing stories of one another's life, praying for each other and laughing (a lot!). We also work very hard on making beautiful music for our Lord. Such music includes not only traditional music, but also contemporary, spiritual, jazz, gospel, ethnic and classical music - anything that can spread the good news!
I hold a degree in Music Education from Penn State University and a Master's Equivalency focusing on choral directing from the University of the Arts. I work full time as a music teacher in Council Rock School District. My church music life began when, at the age of ten, I began to serve as the only pianist/organist in the oldest Methodist congregation in Pennsylvania. At the age of sixteen, I formed the church's first choir. Since then, I have worked as Music Director in Methodist, Presbyterian, Baptist and Lutheran churches of all sizes in Bucks County. It has been my particular pleasure to serve at Good Shepherd for the last seven years.
I regularly post updates about musical happenings at Good Shepherd on my blog, Notes from Nanette. Check it out!
Dr. Hugh Hart has been a part of Good Shepherd's music program since 1980; first as Organist/Choir Director, and since 1997, as Organist. He is a graduate of Susquehanna University (Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Magna Cum Laude), Temple University (Master of Music in Choral Conducting), and Combs College of Music (Doctor of Musical Arts in Organ Performance). In addition to playing for services, he also accompanies the choirs and plays for weddings and funerals. Dr. Hart retired from the Philadelphia Public School System after teaching music for thirty-four years.
O Lord, I will praise you with all my heart and tell everyone about the marvelous things you do. I will be glad, yes filled with joy because of you. I will sing your praises, O Lord above all gods. (Psalm 9:1&2)
The Adult Choir is the core of our music program. Everyone is welcome to share in this ministry. Our music is as diverse as our membership. We celebrate God's love with contemporary, traditional, ethnic, folk, spiritual, gospel, jazz and other great music that is part of our 2000-year-old musical heritage. Please be part of our joy.

Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals; praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. (Psalm 150)
Our Handbell Choir, comprised of four octaves of handbells and four octaves of handchimes, is an exciting and growing part of music ministry. New ringers and substitutes are needed. Some music reading experience is desirable, but not necessary.

Services: Second Sundays, 8:30 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
God has given each of you some special abilities, be sure to use them to help each other, passing on to others God’s many kinds of blessings. Do it with all the strength and energy that God supplies so that God will be glorified.(Peter 4:10 & 11)
The Youth Choir serves as the perfect place for our Middle, Junior, and Senior High members to come together for fellowship and common purpose. We strive to create beautiful and meaningful music while realizing our place as leaders in worship.

Love God with the whole of our hearts, the whole of our intelligence and the whole of our energy. (Mark 12:32 & 33)
And do we have energy! Junior Choir combine two of the best things about being a Christian – service and fellowship. An emphasis on serving our church, kid-friendly music, good vocal training, and lots of fun make choir the place to be!

From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise. (Psalm 8:2)
Our Cherub Choir never fails to elicit smiles (and occasionally cheers) from our congregation. Our God must be equally pleased with our youngest singers. Cherub Choir offers children one of their very first opportunities to find happiness in making music together and in spreading that happiness to others.

We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man’s gift is prophesying, let him use it. If it is serving, let him serve: if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the need of others, let him give generously....(Romans 12:6-8)
...and if your gift is to serve as an instrumental or vocal soloist or small group ensemble member, please let our Director of Music, Nanette Lutz, know. The opportunities are endless.
